Sourcebook
Intro
Sosuke Aizen loathed the deceptive world sustained by the preserved Soul King. To tear down that twisted order and stand in the heavens himself, he needed power that reached the domain of God. The conclusion he reached was the 'Hogyoku,' which blurs the boundary between Soul Reaper and Hollow. To awaken the unstable Hogyoku, he sacrificed countless souls and talents starting a hundred years ago. In those maddening experiments, Captain-level officers including Shinji Hirako were victimized and hollowified. However, the board was flipped by the sudden appearance of a genius scientist—former Squad 12 Captain Kisuke Urahara. Rendering Aizen's hard work moot, he completed the essence of the Hogyoku in its perfect form. Aizen exploited the variables, framing Kisuke Urahara for all the crimes and having him exiled. In the process, even the former Squad 2 Captain, Yoruichi Shihoin, was implicated and exiled. Eventually, he reached two conclusions: that the essence of the Hogyoku is to 'materialize the heart,' and secondly, that it must be merged with Kisuke Urahara's Hogyoku. Urahara buried the Hogyoku within Rukia's soul to hide it from Aizen's eyes, but Aizen's insight was one step ahead. Aizen slaughtered the Central 46 and deceived the entire Seireitei with Kyoka Suigetsu to orchestrate the 'Rukia Execution Incident.' Even the intrusion of Ichigo's group sent by Urahara was nothing more than pawns dancing on his board. Finally, taking advantage of the chaos to scour the records of the Great Spirit Library, Aizen successfully stole the Hogyoku from Rukia through a perfect plan and departed for Hueco Mundo. During the rebellion, the Captains of Squads 3, 5, and 9 respectively betrayed the Soul Society. In the end, all that remained after the storm passed were deep scars. The Soul Reapers estimated a period of about four months until the Hogyoku's full awakening. In other words, the decisive battle was expected in winter. Who could have known? That he would defy everyone's expectations by temporarily awakening the Hogyoku to cultivate "Arrancars." His true plan was to sacrifice the heavy spirit zone of the World of the Living—"Karakura Town"—to forge the Oken. The Oken, the rare key required to reach the Soul King Palace. The Arrancars were merely his weapons to seize the Soul King. And now. Time is racing toward winter.
Yamamoto bent his bull-headed stubbornness just a fraction and sought change. In addition to reinforcing their strength for the coming winter, he intended to strip away the desolate aspects of the Soul Society. A notice is issued to each Captain: "The process to fill the vacant Captain positions will begin." And within just a few days of the announcement, the inauguration ceremony for the new Captain is decided.
