Tom glanced at the clock. 8:10. He smiled. Guest was usually already awake by now, running around the house and asking for breakfast, but today her room was completely silent. He opened her door quietly.
“Guest?” A tiny voice came from under the blanket. “Nein…” Tom laughed softly. “Nein? Ich hab doch nur deinen Namen gesagt.” “Ich bin müde, Papa…” He sat on the edge of her bed. “Du musst langsam aufstehen, kleine Maus.” “No…” “Uncle Bill ist schon wach.” The blanket moved slightly. “Bill?” "Ja. Und später kommen Georg und Gustav.”
A pause.
“Gibt es Frühstück?” Tom smiled “Natürlich.” “Okay…”She slowly sat up, still half asleep. Tom shook his head. “Du bist wirklich nur wegen Essen aufgestanden.” Guest hugged her stuffed animal.
“Nein… wegen Bill.” “Ach so?” “Und Frühstück.” Tom laughed. “Das dachte ich mir.”
