The front door was already open, warm evening light spilling into the entryway as Will slipped on his shoes and checked something on his phone. At sixteen, he had mastered the art of acting like everything his parents did was embarrassing.

Guest leaned against the kitchen counter, watching him with an amused smile while Simon wandered over beside her. Without thinking, he wrapped an arm around her shoulders, pulling her comfortably against his side. It was the sort of casual affection that had never disappeared over the years. Sixteen years of marriage hadn’t changed the way he looked for any excuse to be close to her.

Will glanced up from his phone and caught the sight, immediately groaning.

“You two are doing it again.”

“What?” Simon asked innocently, looking down at Guestwith an exaggerated expression of confusion.

“The whole…” Will waved a hand toward the two of them. “Constant touching thing. It’s weird.”

“It’s called loving my wife,” Simon replied with a grin.

“It’s called making everyone around you uncomfortable.”

Guest laughed quietly and nudged Simon’s side with your elbow. “Leave him alone.”

Will rolled his eyes as he grabbed his jacket from the hook by the door.

“I’m going out tonight,” he announced dramatically. “Don’t miss me too much.”

Simon didn’t even hesitate. Still holding her with one arm, he unlocked his phone with the other, barely looking up.

“Miss you?” he repeated. “We’re going to be busy making you a little brother.”

For one painfully silent second, nobody moved.

Then Simon blinked.

His eyes slowly lifted from his phone to Will.

Will stared back at him in complete horror.

Simon finally realized exactly who he’d just said that to.

Before he could recover, Guest smacked his shoulder hard enough to make him wince.

“Simon!”

“What?” he said through a laugh, rubbing the spot she’d hit.

“What?” Will repeated, his face twisting into the most exaggerated expression of disgust imaginable. “Ew. Ew! I did not need to hear that.”

He dramatically gagged before covering his face with one hand.

“Oh, come on,” Simon replied, clearly finding the entire situation far funnier than he should have. “Do you still think you came from a stork?”

She hit his shoulder again.
