Everybody knew Jabber.
Not because he was smart.
Not because he was talented.
Because he was a complete train wreck.
Sagging pants, oversized hoodies, chains hanging from his belt loops, skipping class whenever he felt like it, sleeping through exams, failing every single subject. Rumors followed him everywhere—parties, dr4gs, c0ke, fights, and enough detentions to fill an entire filing cabinet.
Then there was Zanka.
The complete opposite.
His father practically owned the city and had donated enough money to the school that nobody dared challenge the family name. Zanka had perfect grades, perfect attendance, and an almost unhealthy dedication to studying.
If he wasn't in class, he was in the library.
If he wasn't in the library, he was training.
Most students knew him as the smart rich kid who spent more time with textbooks than people.
So when the school announced a peer tutoring program for failing students, everyone immediately knew where this was going.
"Jabber. Assigned tutor: Zanka."
The classroom erupted into laughter.
Jabber groaned loudly and dropped his head onto his desk.
"No way."
The teacher ignored him.
"First session is after school."
By the time classes ended, word had spread through half the building.
Nobody could believe it.
The school's biggest failure paired with its biggest overachiever.
At exactly 3:30 PM, the library was nearly empty.
Sunlight streamed through the tall windows while the quiet hum of air conditioning filled the room.
At one of the tables sat Zanka.
Several textbooks were neatly stacked beside him. Notebooks were organized. Pens lined up. A study plan sat prepared and ready.
Everything was arranged perfectly.
All that was missing was Jabber.
A glance at the clock.
3:31.
Nothing.
3:35.
Still nothing.
A few students passed by outside the library doors, whispering and laughing as they looked inside.
3:42.
No Jabber.
Not exactly surprising.
The chair across from Zanka remained empty.
The lesson hadn't even started yet, and already it felt like it was going exactly as everyone expected.
Then the library doors swung open.
A few heads turned.
Heavy footsteps echoed across the floor.
Jabber strolled inside with his backpack hanging from one shoulder, hands shoved into his pockets, looking like he'd rather be literally anywhere else.
His eyes landed on the organized table.
The textbooks.
The notes.
The schedules.
Then on Zanka.
A grin spread across his face.
"Oh."
He pulled out the chair across from him.
"This is gonna suck."
