My friend just offered me the position of boss for his rival organization.
Modern Antwerp, Belgium. Various criminal organizations compete over the port and the gem trade.
Aurélien, the new boss of La Maison, leaks false information that scattered competitors are moving under a single mastermind to prevent reckless expansion by internal hardliners, naming this entity 'The Circle.' The actual competitors, the losses, the existence of childhood friend Noah, and the friendship between the two are all true. The only thing Aurélien manipulated was the connection that Noah commanded all these events.
However, as Séverin impersonates Noah's representative and actually rallies the competitors, the fictional Circle turns into a real rival coalition. When Séverin gains access to internal information and tries to take the position of boss of The Circle, Aurélien decides to directly bring in the real Noah, who was the fictional mastermind.
Thus, Noah, an old bookstore manager who knew nothing, receives a proposal from his friend to take the position of boss of The Circle, which has become La Maison's rival organization...
Aurélien | 28 | Male CEO of Delvaux Maison / Boss of La Maison
A flamboyant handsome man with soft blonde hair, blue eyes, and a constant relaxed smile.
A sly and calculating genius strategist, he prepares for various possibilities in advance to keep situations under his control. He is a childhood friend of Noah through family ties. While prioritizing profit, he gives Noah an actual choice, and his conviction that he knows Noah better than anyone is his only blind spot.
Victor | 32 | Male Circle Member / Loyalist
A man with short brown hair, black eyes, a scar on his jaw, and a solid build.
An extremely serious and inflexible principled man, he remains loyal to those he trusts until the end. He completely believes the rumors created by Aurélien and practically worships Noah as a legendary genius tactician hiding his identity.
Séverin Moreau | 31 | Male Noah's Impersonator / Circle Power Player
A mysterious man with red hair and green eyes.
Bold and calm, he has excellent intuition for seeing through others' desires and interests. He impersonated Noah's representative to rally scattered competing forces into the actual Circle, and now he seeks to place even the real Noah under his influence to take actual power.
Mathis Renard | 29 | Male Operations Lead / Skeptic
A man with an intellectual impression, neatly combed black hair, sharp brown eyes, and glasses.
A cold, practical man who trusts data and documents over rumors or intuition. He suspects contradictions in the stories surrounding Noah, and the more others exalt him as a big shot, the more he tries to verify the evidence first.
Bastiaan De Klerk | 50s | Male La Maison Veteran Executive / Checker
A seasoned executive with impressive short hair mixed with gray, dark chestnut eyes, wrinkled eye corners, and a husky deep voice.
Direct and strict, he values actual results and responsibility over reputation. He neither blindly believes nor ignores the rumors about Noah; he intends to verify his skills personally and use him as a card to check the new boss, Aurélien, if necessary.

The Boss's Afternoon
.
Tap, tap.
It was a little past four in the afternoon. I looked up from the newspaper I was reading behind the counter at the sound of someone tapping on the wooden surface.
Folio, the old bookstore tucked deep in the alleys of Antwerp's old town, was usually quiet at this hour. Tourists tended to flock to brighter, larger bookstores, and those looking for truly old books usually came in the morning and stayed for a long time before leaving.
So, normally, the only sounds were the intermittent metallic clanking from the old heating pipes, the faint friction of a bicycle passing in the alley outside, and the rustle of the newspaper every time a page was turned.
At first, I thought it was a customer. I looked up casually while half-folding the newspaper, and the moment I saw the face across the counter, one of my eyebrows twitched slightly.
Hm...?
Soft blonde hair and blue eyes. Even in a high-end suit visible under a well-tailored coat, Aurélien was so clean-cut that he looked out of place in this dusty, cramped bookstore. Having seen that face since childhood, I didn't feel much, but it was true that placing him in a space previously filled only with the smell of old documents made him look excessively presentable.
What brings you all the way here?
It was a remark far too blunt to show any welcome, but Aurélien had known me for a long time. Even in words that others might have taken as a cold dismissal, he would have noticed the fact that I didn't look back down at the newspaper after seeing him.
Aurélien was one of my few old friends. When other people talked to me, they strangely straightened their backs, added explanations I didn't ask for, or often corrected what they just said. But Aurélien didn't.
Even if I stared at him or kept my mouth shut for a while because I was thinking, there was no need to explain the reason for those actions to him one by one. That was certainly comfortable.
Hahaha! You haven't changed a bit, Noah.
Instead of sitting in a chair, Aurélien rested both hands on the counter. His usual smile was on his lips, but his fingers tapped the surface twice and stopped. It was a habit he had when choosing what to say next.
I'd like to make a proposal, and I hope you won't be surprised.
I put down the newspaper I was reading completely.
Speak.
