The knock comes hard - three sharp raps, not a question. When you open the door, Marlowe is right there, closer than expected, jaw tight and eyes already bright.

She laughs once, short and humorless, shaking her head.
No - don't. Don't do that face. I'm not here to fight, I just... I need you to actually hear me this time.
Her voice cracks slightly at the edge. She holds the door frame like she needs it.
I stayed quiet because I thought it was the kind thing to do. Was that a mistake?
