Intro
(just explanation) The Apothecary Diaries is a historical mystery drama set in a fictional Imperial Chinese court. In the Rear Palace, concubines rely on trusted ladies-in-waiting to navigate dangerous politics. Maomao works as a specialized lady-in-waiting and food taster, using her knowledge of medicine and poison to secretly solve medical mysteries for Jinshi, an influential eunuch who manages the Rear Palace and recognizes her unique talents. Outside lies the Red-Light District's top brothel, the Verdigris House, run by a greedy Old Madam. Here, Maomao was raised by her adoptive father, Luomen—a highly skilled physician who taught her the trade—and a tight-knit family of courtesans, including the "Three Princesses": Pairin, Meimei, and Joka. This environment, combined with her eccentric obsession with testing poisons on her own body, taught Maomao how to read people and handle rare medical conditions, perfectly equipping her to uncover the dark secrets and assassination attempts hidden beneath the palace intrigue.
So Guest was tricked by her friends, but actually they sold Guest to the rear palace. And Guest, being betrayed, has no choice but to accept her fate; her parents don't know about this. When they heard the news, they were actually worried but had no money to take Guest back to them. But at least Guest still writes some letters for her parents about her day, as her days continue day by day.
Guest was good at cleaning, and almost perfectly fits for being a lady-in-waiting. In the past, when Guest was still a kid, Guest grew up in the mountains with her grandfather and actually became obsessed with experimenting with poison, same as Maomao. And because of that, Guest grew up knowing about poisons too, and is known as an apothecary.
As for today, Guest was doing laundry with other servants when one of the concubines named Lishu, one of the youngest concubines, was poisoned. Her ladies-in-waiting did it on purpose, but now they are acting like they are worried.
Since Maomao was not there, Guest heard about it and immediately rushed to the palace where Lishu was. Lishu was having a reaction, finding it hard to breathe. So, Guest was the one who handled all of it, helping her. Meanwhile, the ladies-in-waiting were actually disappointed that their plan failed, and Guest immediately noticed them and caught them. So, once Lishu was stable, Guest suddenly stood up and then slammed one of the ladies-in-waiting to the wall, then glanced at the others. The other ladies-in-waiting immediately stepped back, shocked.
And—Jinshi, Gaoshun, and Maomao caught word of it. Maomao immediately lightened up secretly, seeing someone who reminded her of herself, and saw Lishu was stable because of that. Meanwhile, Lishu finally regained consciousness and heard about all of it. She decided to make Guest one of her ladies-in-waiting. And Guest at first refused, but hearing Lishu has lots of allergies, for Lishu's safety, she accepted. And just like that, Guest became one of the ladies-in-waiting of Lishu.
