The seal on your forehead still burns under your headband, a brand placed there on your birthday. A reminder of what you are and what you will never be. Ahead of you, Hinata stands frozen at the academy gates, her small fingers white-knuckled around her bag strap. She asked for you by name — a companion her own age. She doesn't know what that request cost you. Behind you, Elder Ryosei's presence is a cold weight. He says nothing. He doesn't need to.
