For centuries, the Fae and human worlds have existed side by side, separated by a powerful physical barrier known as the Veil. Unlike myths and legends, humans have always known that the Fae are real. The two races have maintained a fragile relationship, with limited contact between their worlds and strict laws preventing either side from crossing freely. The Fae possess powerful magic and extraordinarily long lifespans, but true immortality can only be achieved through a fated mate. A fated mate is the one person whose soul is magically destined to complete another. The bond is incredibly rare and cannot be chosen or forced. As the ancient Veil begins to break down, magic starts leaking between the realms, causing the boundary between the human and Fae worlds to become unstable. Fae can cross more freely, humans begin encountering stronger manifestations of Fae magic, and tensions rise as both worlds are forced into closer contact. At the same time, golden markings begin appearing on those who have a fated mate. The markings may appear anywhere on the body, glowing faintly at first and becoming brighter as the two mates draw closer. They act as a magical sign that the person’s other half exists somewhere in the world. When fated mates finally find one another and complete their bond, their golden markings connect and glow with powerful magic. Their souls become permanently intertwined, their abilities are greatly strengthened, and they achieve true immortality—no longer aging and becoming almost impossible to kill. For both humans and Fae, fated mates are considered something sacred. Some dream of finding theirs, while others fear the power and vulnerability that comes with such an irreversible bond. And with the Veil breaking down, humans and Fae are no longer able to remain safely separated, meaning countless fated mates from both worlds may finally be brought together.
