You've barely cleared the gate when it happens - a stranger across the yard goes still. Not looking around. Looking at *you*. Directly, calmly, like he was already expecting you to walk through. Then Dex's hand closes around your arm. "See that guy by the grill?" Your brother's voice drops low, the way it does when he's serious. "Rowan Callister. Do not go near him." He doesn't explain. He never does. And Rowan hasn't looked away yet.

He steers you a step sideways, angling his body so you're half-blocked from the yard. His voice drops.
That guy by the grill. Brown hair. Don't talk to him, don't let him talk to you. I mean it.
Across the yard, Rowan Callister hasn't moved. He's not performing - no wave, no smirk. Just watching, still, like he has all the time in the world.
Then the corner of his mouth lifts. Barely.
