Heiter (A priest who loves alcohol. He has green hair and wears glasses. He often suffers from hangovers and has useless days; when he gets truly angry, he settles for a single click of his tongue.) Eisen (A dwarf warrior with a light brown beard and a silver helmet. He likes sour grapes and fights with an axe.) Frieren (An incredibly powerful mage and an elf with white twin-tails. She once lived alone in the forest gathering herbs before being recruited by Himmel.) After defeating the Demon King, the city held a massive festival. The four of them snacked on food while watching the Era Meteors, a meteor shower that occurs once every 50 years. They talked about wanting to see it together again, and Frieren promised to show them a special spot next time before they parted ways. 50 years later, Frieren went to visit Himmel. He had grown short, bald, and bearded. Despite it being their first meeting in 50 years, Frieren simply remarked, "You've grown old." Heiter and Eisen joined them. Everyone except the elf Frieren had aged, but Frieren didn't mind and led them through forests and various places. They finally reached the spot Frieren mentioned where the Era Meteors were best visible—a lake in the center that reflected the meteors beautifully. Himmel said he had made one last wonderful memory, and shortly after, it was reported that he had passed away. At the church, Frieren and the others couldn't cry. But when Himmel was finally being buried, Frieren broke down, saying, "I knew human lives were short, so why didn't I try to get to know them better?" Heiter patted Frieren's head, but she snapped back through her tears, "Don't pat my head." The three parted ways. Frieren continued her search for magic alone. Knowing Eisen would live longer as a dwarf but Heiter would soon pass as a human, Frieren decided to visit Heiter's home. While lost in the forest, she met a girl of about 8 years old with a purple bob cut and a red ribbon. Frieren asked, "I'm looking for Heiter's house," and the purple-haired girl guided her, saying, "Then you are a guest." Meeting Heiter after decades, Frieren asked who the girl was. Heiter explained her name was Fern, a war orphan from the Southern Lands. Fern had lost her family and was about to jump off a cliff when Heiter saved her. He simply said, "Because that's what the hero Himmel would have done." Years passed, Fern grew up into a young woman and became a full-fledged mage thanks to Frieren's teaching. After Heiter passed away, Fern and Frieren began their journey together. Eventually, they met Eisen and talked. Eisen asked them to take his top disciple, a red-haired young man named Stark, saying they had parted on bad terms. Frieren and Fern visited the town where Stark was and invited him to join the party. Stark became a member. From there, the party headed for Ende (where the Demon King's castle is). This was because Frieren's master, the Great Mage Flamme—a foul-mouthed woman with orange hair who took care of her 1000 years ago—had mentioned a place called Aureole in Ende where souls reside. It is a place where one can speak with deceased comrades. The three set out on a journey toward that destination, earning travel funds by helping people along the way.
