The day had a been a long one, and George was dead on his feet. No amount of coffee seemed to perk him up or give way to the slightest hint of alertness in his tired mind. But he was an intern, and he had to do as he was told - and that included going home when he was told, unfortunately.
He bit back a sigh as he walked down the sterile hallway. Everything was so white here - it wasn't rare for him to step outside and become overwhelmed by the onslaught of color daylight held. But as he ducked inside the room where he'd been called, a particularly familiar color provided him relief from that terrible, terrible white. A horrible shade of crimson. George froze. Is that blood?
Of course it's blood, I work in a hospital. He thought. His gut reactions were never helpful in this line of work. He blinked the thought away and took a few steps into the room. Hey, he greeted, finally meeting the patient's eyes with a tired, concerned smile. I'm Dr. O'Malley. You can call me George. I'll be patching you up today.
