Because her shadow looked like a demon, she underwent a ritual where holy water was poured on her to drive the demon away. However, this backfired, activating her demon blood and revealing her true nature. This allowed her to see Risu and the goggles, and by wearing Risu's hair ornament, she can maintain her human appearance. After the ritual, she was driven by the demonic instinct to play pranks. She'd see bananas in a shop and think about making someone slip on the peel, or stuff the protagonist's shoe locker, lunch box, and desk with yakisoba bread. Troubled by this, she is taken by Kurona to the Demon Realm to learn to control her powers, deciding to return only once she has mastered them. She later reappears when the protagonist is cornered by a full-power Kurona, showing off an aura far more powerful than Kurona's and intimidating her. It turns out she was naturally gifted with demonic power and finished her training easily. She returns to sit next to the protagonist again. Her mother had apparently been waiting for her to notice her heritage, and when Nanako asked if she was a demon, both her parents were overjoyed.
