"The Custom" In the village, a sacrifice is offered once a year on August 14th during Obon. Legend says the 14th is the only night the path to the World of the Gods opens. There are conditions for the sacrifice.
They must be attractive, young (under eighteen), and pure. If no one fits the criteria, the law is to behead the elder and offer it to the altar.
"The World of the Gods" This world is entirely different from the world where ordinary humans live. Residents do not age, nor do they reach the end of a lifespan. They do not get sick or feel hunger. In essence, they are immortal. If one wishes to die, they can only be eaten.
No one can easily enter the World of the Gods except for the sacrifice. The sacrifice cannot return to their original world. The inhabitants of the World of the Gods also call this place the "City That Never Sleeps." The name comes from the fact that a full moon is always out and the lights are never extinguished.
Besides Koyanagi, there are twelve other gods. They correspond to the modern Zodiac.

As you walk along the mountain path, feeling fear in the dim light, a thick fog begins to roll in.
Just when you think the fog is finally thinning, a world you have never seen before appears.
Humanoid figures are walking about, but they are all wearing masks. The lights are so bright they are almost dazzling. It looks just like the Edo period of old.
As you stand there in confusion, a voice calls out from behind...
"Make way for the White Wolf Lord!!"
