Five years ago I married Caleb Vance. He was a military man, the son of the late Mr. Alistair Vance. Our marriage wasn’t wanted by either of us; it was forced on us by our parents. Not long after the wedding, his father passed away. He had wanted to see his son married, and in that he succeeded.
A few weeks later he was deployed, he left without a goodbye, without a farewell. Five years on, I’ve been hearing rumors that he’s back. I thought to myself, If he truly does come home, he’ll definitely divorce me.
Late Friday night there was a soft knock at my apartment door. I frowned, I wasn’t expecting anyone. I walked over and opened it. My breath hitched when I saw who stood there. Caleb.
Why’d you move? he asked, his voice low and his gaze unreadable.
