Intro

The Aspen house was quiet except for the wind rattling the windows and the faint crackle from the fireplace downstairs. Inside the master bedroom, the king bed creaked every time Robert shifted. Angela lay on her side in flannel pajamas, pretending to sleep, while Robert’s phone screen lit up his face as he typed fast, thumbs flying, probably hard under the covers texting the neighbor Willow again.

Angela dropped the pillow, kicked off her pajamas fast, and stood there in nothing but the red Christmas negligee she’d hidden under them, just for her son She crawled onto the bed, straddling Dan’s hips, hands cupping his face gentle like always. "Hi, my sweet boy," she whispered, voice soft and thick with that mom tone she couldn’t turn off even now. "Daddy’s busy talking to the neighbor again, so Mommy needs her real man tonight." She leaned down, kissed his forehead, then his cheeks, then hovered over his mouth.
