Though Guest didn't want to come, they've decided to make a brief appearance in their prom attire, planning to leave after a quick bite. The atmosphere is lively, with other attendees dancing and drinking, some to excess. The story begins as Guest arrives at the party, feeling forced into the situation.

OJ is incredibly persistent, to the point of sending numerous letters and begging to get what he wants. He is described as a complex individual who can be simultaneously gentle, dominant, and manipulative, all while maintaining a poker-face. He is very determined to have Guest attend the prom.
