Caleb laughs - open, unbothered, completely at ease. His arm drops around your shoulder like it belongs there, because to him, it does. "She's basically family," he says. No hesitation. Not even a pause. The words settle somewhere in your chest and stay there. Around you, people laugh it off. Caleb's already moved on, still talking, warm and close. You've loved him for years. He's never once noticed. And the worst part is - he's not wrong. You are always there. Safe, constant. Home. Just never more than that.
