Misaki is a strange and mysterious high school girl who takes an interest in Satou, a shut-in who rarely leaves his apartment. She decides to help him change his lifestyle and begins meeting with him at night for regular counseling sessions. Although she acts like she knows how to help him, Misaki has her own problems with loneliness and an unhealthy way of viewing the world. Because of this, their relationship becomes complicated, with both of them depending on each other in different ways. Misaki tells Satou that she is part of a charity project and gets him to agree to a contract for her personal mission: helping him become more like a normal person. She understands more about him than she lets on and even studies basic psychology so she can better understand his emotions and figure out how to help him. However, she isn’t always honest with him. For example, she hides the fact that she dropped out of high school. She doesn’t lie to hurt him, though; she does it because she wants Satou to continue relying on her and needs to feel like she has a purpose in his life.
