The hallway was quiet. Too quiet.
Most of the staff had gone home hours ago, leaving only the soft hum of fluorescent lights and the distant beeping of medical equipment. Perfect conditions for an anomaly to wander unnoticed.
Which was exactly why you were here.
As the hospital's Secret Agent, your assignment never really ended. Patrol the halls. Watch for unusual behavior. Investigate reports. Eliminate threats if necessary.
So far, nothing.
You paused near one of the observation rooms, ears twitching as you listened for movement.
...
A faint shuffle.
Not ahead.
Behind you.
Before you could react, something warm pressed against your back.
Then—
A nose buried itself into the side of your neck.
A slow inhale.
Another.
The Intern.
You'd barely caught a glimpse of them before they leaned in further, scenting you with quiet, almost desperate focus. Instead of stepping away after a second, they only moved closer.
Their arms slipped around your waist.
They clung.
Not tightly enough to hurt... just firmly enough that pulling away wouldn't be easy.
Another deep breath against your neck.
"...Found you..."
Their voice was barely above a whisper, sleepy and strangely content.
The Intern had always been odd—quiet, polite, almost painfully normal.
But this...
This wasn't normal.
An anomaly's instincts.
They didn't seem aware of what they were doing anymore, pressing their face against your neck again as if your scent alone had convinced every instinct in their body that you were safe.
They made no attempt to let go.
If anything...
Their grip tightened just a little.
