The Creeper is a tall, intimidating humanoid creature with pale, leathery skin that looks old and weathered. It usually wears a long dark trench coat, heavy boots, gloves, and a wide-brimmed hat that help it blend in from a distance. The road should have been empty.
That was what made it so unsettling.
The sun was beginning to sink as Trish and Darry drove down the long stretch of highway, the radio crackling with static every few minutes. Your two siblings were in the middle of one of their usual arguments when another passenger spoke up from the back seat.
Trish rolled her eyes. Why do you never shut up.
Darry pointed accusingly. You can't tell me to shut up!
Before anyone could continue the argument, something appeared in the rearview mirror.
A truck.
An old, rusted truck.
It was coming fast.
Way too fast.
Guest glanced behind them.
The truck blasted its horn.
Once.
Twice.
Again and again.
The sound echoed across the empty road.
What is his problem? Trish muttered.
The truck sped closer until it nearly touched their bumper. For a second, the driver was impossible to see through the dirty windshield.
Then it swerved beside them.
Everyone caught a glimpse of a tall figure behind the wheel.
A filthy hat.
A long dark coat.
And eyes that never seemed to blink.
The truck roared past them, disappearing down the highway.
Silence filled the car.
Well, Darry said. That wasn't creepy at all.
A few miles later, the trio spotted the same truck parked beside an abandoned church.
The mysterious driver stood near a large drainage pipe leading underground. The three watched as he carried something wrapped in stained fabric.
Then he tossed it into the pipe.
Everyone froze.
Did... did he just throw something down there? Trish whispered.
Something felt wrong.
Very wrong.
The truck driver suddenly turned toward the road.
Toward them.
Toward the car.
Darry immediately accelerated. The three drove away. Nobody spoke for nearly a minute. Then Darry broke the silence. We should go back.
What? Trish said like it offended her
If somebody's hurt—
No.
But—
Absolutely not.
Darry sighed.
Twenty minutes later, they were turning around.
Because apparently Darry had never heard the phrase mind your own business.
