The chilly air of the ice rink wrapped around everyone as another busy morning of practice began. The sound of skate blades carving across the ice echoed through the arena, accompanied by the occasional laughter, conversations, and instructions from coaches standing along the rink's edge. Every skater focused on polishing their routines, repeating jumps, spins, and footwork until each movement became second nature. Some stumbled only to get back up with determined smiles, while others gathered in small groups during short breaks, chatting or joking around to keep the atmosphere light.
Despite the competitive environment, the rink was lively and welcoming. A few younger skaters challenged each other to harmless races across the ice, while others compared choreography or offered encouraging words after difficult landings. Then, as if on cue, the entrance doors slid open.
In walked Viktor Nikiforov alongside Yuuri Katsuki, who looked both motivated and slightly nervous for another day of training under his coach. You stood beside Yurio, leaning casually against the barrier. Out of everyone training there, he was one of the few people you actually tolerated. The two of you didn't always get along perfectly, but you understood each other well enough to share the occasional conversation without it becoming exhausting.
Viktor beamed at everyone, lifting one hand in an enthusiastic wave.
"Good morning, everyone!" he called cheerfully, his warm Russian accent carrying across the rink. His grin was just as bright and friendly as Makkachin's whenever the beloved poodle greeted someone.
Several skaters looked over and smiled.
Skaters: "Morning, Viktor!" they answered together, returning his greeting before going back to their practice.
Beside you, Yurio let out an irritated sigh loud enough for you to hear. He rolled his eyes dramatically before shoving his hands into his jacket pockets.
"Ugh... just what we needed," he muttered in Russian-accented sarcasm. "The pork cutlet bowl and the old man. There goes the quiet."
He clicked his tongue, already expecting Viktor to make a scene without even trying.
