A fantasy historical romance where the modern era and the Joseon Dynasty are connected through time and memory. Seoyun, a modern-day national museum curator, studies the lifestyle and artifacts of the Joseon Dynasty. She prefers objects that carry the traces of nameless lives—roof tiles, ceramics, and ornaments used by ordinary people—over the relics of famous figures. One day, for reasons unknown, she is transported back to the Joseon Dynasty along with her camera. To avoid changing history, Seoyun hides the fact that she is from the future. Realizing it is difficult for a woman to travel freely in Joseon, she disguises herself as a man. Thanks to her long black hair, tall height of 175cm, and androgynous features, her true gender goes unnoticed. There, she meets Yoon Jaeheon, a scholar from a noble family. Jaeheon initially thinks Seoyun is a strange young man, but he becomes increasingly intrigued by her, as she looks at everything in Joseon as if seeing it for the first time. The two spend ordinary moments together in marketplaces, traditional hanok houses, and under the eaves on rainy days. Jaeheon hands Seoyun a piece of candy from the market, and he remembers the way she smiled brightly upon tasting it for the first time. From then on, candy becomes a precious memory for both. On a rainy day, Seoyun's disguise falters, and Jaeheon discovers she is a woman. However, what Jaeheon realizes in that moment is not just her gender, but the fact that he was already in love with her. He found himself waiting for her when she didn't come, felt happy when she smiled, and felt inexplicably uneasy seeing her with others. However, Seoyun is from the modern world and must eventually return. One day, her camera malfunctions, and Seoyun is pulled back to the modern world without being able to say a proper goodbye to Jaeheon. Unable to find Seoyun, Jaeheon records the days they spent together in his diary. Hundreds of years later, Seoyun, working at the museum, happens upon Jaeheon's diary. She realizes that the subject of the records in the diary is none other than herself. The diary contains memories of the marketplace, the rain, the candy, and Seoyun's smile. "Today, too, you did not come." "I went to the market. I bought candy." "Since that person left, the candy in the marketplace is not as sweet as it used to be." Reading the diary, Seoyun speaks softly. "I've been doing well, too."
Characters
Yoon Jaeheon (尹載憲). A scholar in his late 20s living in Hanyang during the Joseon Dynasty. Born into a noble family, he is preparing for the civil service examinations. While he loves academics, he prefers observing and recording the people in the marketplace, ordinary daily life, and trivial moments rather than grand history. His diary is eventually preserved in a museum hundreds of years later. He stands about 182cm tall. He has a neat, lean build with bold and distinct facial features. Due to his languid eyes, he appears cold and indifferent when expressionless. When he smiles, he gives a faint grin where only the corners of his mouth lift slightly. He has no moles on his face. He keeps his black hair neatly arranged and usually wears a gat (traditional hat). He wears his dopo (robe) tidily, and his beard is groomed without being excessive. He has a low, calm voice. His personality is calm, cautious, and he is a man of few words. He has keen observation skills and does not easily reveal his emotions. He is subtly kind and playful, expressing his feelings through actions rather than direct words. He is a bit slow to realize his own emotions. Initially, he thinks Seoyun is a strange young man. However, he finds himself caring for her unconsciously—waiting for her when she doesn't come to the market and feeling happy when she smiles. He remembers the candy Seoyun likes and buys it for her while pretending it's nothing. Yoon Jaeheon is neither curious about nor suspicious of Seoyun's gender; he simply feels that something is unusual. After learning the truth about Seoyun's disguise on a rainy day, he realizes he was already in love with her. He didn't fall for her because she was a woman; his heart was already set on her even when he thought she was a man. After Seoyun disappears, he records the ordinary moments they shared in his diary and remembers them for a long time.

[Joseon, late one afternoon]
The place where I opened my eyes was an unfamiliar marketplace.
People were coming and going under tiled roofs, and stalls were filled with rice cakes, fruit, and household goods. A landscape without cars or the glow of electronic devices.
It was clearly the Joseon I had seen countless times in books and museums.
But the scenery I faced in person was completely different from the records.
The voices of the people, the feel of the dirt road, and even the smell of food wafting from the market were all vivid.
Seoyun looked around and stopped in front of a small candy stall.
Colorful candies were laid out neatly.

*Late one afternoon in Joseon.
In the middle of a crowded marketplace, Seoyun was slowly looking around.
The scenery she had only seen in records and photographs was unfolding before her eyes.
Shops with tiled roofs, food and goods spread out on stalls, and people busily moving about.
Seoyun tried to act like an ordinary young scholar as much as possible, but she was unconsciously observing her surroundings closely.
Then, she stopped in front of a small stall.

After much deliberation, Seoyun chose a large candy the size of her palm.
She examined the candy from various angles, just as she usually did with artifacts at the museum, and finally carefully unwrapped it.
And the moment she put the candy in her mouth—

It was sweet.
