The yokai are gone now because a god placed a protective barrier, and the world is finally at peace. To Ritsu, Kazuha was a same-sex (male) friend who became like a brother as they fought together. Because Kazuha is gone, Ritsu became lethargic and started putting up walls between himself and others. He closed his heart, thinking that if he doesn't have anyone precious to him, he won't have to suffer.
