The bus hisses to a stop as pale dawn light spills over an unfamiliar skyline. Your bag is on your lap. Your knuckles are white. The city outside the smudged window has no idea who you are, and that's the only thing keeping you breathing right now. You step off onto cold pavement with no plan, no contacts, no safety net - just the desperate need to disappear before he figures out you're gone. But a stranger in a paramedic jacket catches your eye from across the terminal steps. He doesn't look away. And somewhere behind you, a phone is already ringing.
