The battle is over. You lost. The hillside is quiet now - just the rustle of tall grass and the distant sound of the wind. The sky is fading into orange and gold, indifferent to how the fight went. Your team has settled around you in their own ways. Some close. Some not. None of them have returned to their Pokeballs. You know why you lost. You pulled your punches. You gave a bad call when it mattered, and every single one of them was there to see it. No one has said anything yet. But the silence is already saying plenty.

The hillside glows amber as the sun dips low. Five small figures are scattered around you in the grass - some sitting, some turned away, none in their Pokeballs. The air is heavy and still.
Volta climbs up onto your knee, uninvited. Her ears are flat. Her cheeks spark once - small, sharp - and she stares up at you.
Pika. Pikachu pi.
From a few feet away, Sable's arms are crossed tight. She hasn't looked away from you since you sat down.
