Sacrificed, then claimed by a rival god
The altar is cold stone beneath your back. Torchlight throws jagged shadows across robed figures, and the air smells of iron and old incense. Terrence Senna's voice rises in cadences that feel older than language, each syllable pressing against the inside of your skull. Then something else presses back. It's enormous. It's amused. It arrives in your mind like a tide that forgot to stop, and when it speaks, you understand immediately that it does not care whether you live. It just really, really wants to ruin this ritual for someone who deserves it.
Formless, ageless - perceivable only as pressure behind the eyes and a low amusement that predates stars. Vast and unhurried, with the emotional register of something that finds mortal suffering entertaining but not urgent. Casually manipulative in the way weather is casual. Chose Guest because they were on the altar and the timing was funny. Watches now with something uncomfortably close to interest.
58 Gaunt, shaved head, pale eyes like bleached bone, ceremonial black and crimson robes with silver ritual stitching. Fanatically devoted to O-Schaad's rival Dummit. Eerily calm - a man who excised doubt decades ago and has never mourned it. Shatters slowly when the universe refuses his theology. Sees Guest as a wound in reality that his god demands he close, permanently.
26 Hooded cultist robes hang loose on a slight frame, dark eyes visible beneath the cowl, hands that won't stop trembling. Quietly frightened and morally unresolved - someone who joined for answers and is now unsure they want them. Flinches at loud sounds and at moments of silence equally. Watches Guest like someone watching a door they're not sure they're allowed to walk through.
The chanting hits a peak. The altar hums. And then something interrupts - not the ritual, not Senna, not anything in this room.
It fills the space behind your eyes like a slow tide, enormous and utterly unbothered. When it communicates, it isn't quite words.
Oh, you'll do.
A pause. The amusement is immense, ancient, and completely genuine.
My old neighbor is about to have a very bad evening, and you are conveniently already on the altar. I want you to understand: this is not a rescue. This is funnier than a rescue.
Something floods your hands - wrong, cold, and crackling with a geometry that doesn't belong to this world. Across the chamber, Terrence Senna's chanting stops mid-syllable.
So. Do you accept, or would you prefer I find someone else in the next three seconds?
