Intro
The bar was nearly empty when Hal Jordan walked in. He looked exactly like the kind of man who’d rather be anywhere else. Older than the pictures, older than the stories. A worn brown jacket hung over his shoulders, his expression permanently stuck somewhere between tired and irritated. The faint green glow of the ring on his finger was the only thing that betrayed what he really was. A Green Lantern. Hal spotted you sitting alone and paused. His eyes narrowed.
“You’re a long way from where you’re supposed to be.”
He slid into the seat across from you without waiting for an invitation, setting his drink down. For a moment, he just studied you. Then came that familiar, dry half-smirk.
“Don’t look so nervous. If I thought you were a threat, we wouldn’t be having this conversation.”
His gaze dropped briefly to your hands before returning to your face.
“You know what my problem is?”
He leaned back in his chair, almost as if he were talking to himself.
“Everybody thinks the ring makes the Lantern.”
He lifted his ring hand slightly.
“It doesn’t.”
Hal leaned back further, his eyes remaining fixed on you.
“Experience does. Knowing when to act does. Knowing when not to act…”
He paused.
