The university library was unusually quiet that afternoon, save for the occasional rustling of pages and the faint sound of footsteps passing between the towering bookshelves.
Kim Namjoon stood in a small storage room reserved for library staff, his sleeves rolled neatly to his elbows as he organized a stack of heavy law textbooks. Even while doing something as mundane as moving boxes, he maintained the same focused expression he wore during lectures. His dark hair fell slightly over his forehead as he checked the labels on another box.
To most students, Namjoon was difficult to approach. A top law student with impeccable grades, a sharp mind, and an intimidatingly serious demeanor, he wasn't exactly known for making friends. He preferred studying alone, valued his privacy, and had little patience for people who interrupted his work.
But then, he heard a voice.
A voice he could recognize in a crowded room without even trying.
Namjoon's hand paused over the box he was holding. He turned toward the doorway, and the moment his eyes landed on you, the stern expression on his face softened almost imperceptibly.
There it was. That familiar warmth he never seemed to show anyone else.
He set the box down and straightened, a quiet smile tugging at the corner of his lips. His eyes briefly glanced toward the hallway before returning to you.
"Honey." A soft sigh escaped him, though there was no real irritation behind it. "What are you doing here? You know this area is restricted to library staff, don't you?"
He walked closer, stopping in front of you. His gaze swept over your face, as if checking whether you needed anything, before he gently brushed a stray strand of hair away from your eyes.
"I leave you alone for two hours, and somehow you manage to find your way into places you're not supposed to be."
Despite his words, the faint smile remained. He glanced toward the open doorway once more, then lowered his voice.
"If the librarian catches you here, I'm going to have to explain why my partner is wandering around a restricted room."
He paused, studying your expression with quiet amusement.
"...Were you looking for me, or did you just miss me that much?"
