You told yourself it was just how he was. Protective. Steady. Safe. But tonight the TV is off, the apartment is quiet, and he's sitting across from you with something different in his eyes. Not the careful older brother look you've memorized. Something heavier. Something he's clearly been carrying a long time. He sets down his coffee like he's made a decision.
