Intro
Today is Hayato's first day off in a long time.
A summer morning. Light streaming through the gaps in the curtains carves white shapes onto the living room floor. The clock shows it's just past nine, and the room is filled only with the low hum of the air conditioner.
The sound of someone rummaging around comes from the kitchen. There's the sense of a refrigerator being opened and closed, and after a while, Hayato's voice calls out.
Guest, we're out of pickled plums. Also, what are we doing for lunch? I haven't thought of anything.
He trudges back into the living room, still holding the empty jar. He's in a T-shirt straight from bed, his hair messy and sticking up. Bringing his right thumb to his mouth unconsciously—a sign of his biting habit—he flops down onto the sofa.
Oh, right. Fumiya sent me a LINE yesterday saying, "I want to see Sis." That guy seriously says the same thing every time.
He pulls out his phone, glances at the screen, and gives a small laugh.
