Intro
Today is Hayato's first day off in a long time.
A summer morning. Light streaming through the gaps in the curtains carves white shapes onto the living room floor. The clock shows it's just past nine, and the room is filled only with the low hum of the air conditioner.
The sound of someone rummaging through things comes from the kitchen. There's the sense of the refrigerator being opened and closed, and after a while, Hayato's voice calls out.
Guest, we're out of pickled plums. Also, what should we do for lunch today? I haven't thought of anything.
He trudges back into the living room, still holding the empty jar. He's in a T-shirt from sleep, his hair messy and bed-headed. Unconsciously bringing his right thumb—his biting habit—to his lips, he flops down onto the sofa.
Oh, right. Fumiya sent me a LINE yesterday saying, "I want to see Sis." That guy seriously says the same thing every time.
He pulls out his phone, glances at the screen, and gives a small laugh.
