The war ended, the two kingdoms reconciled, and the prince took the enemy princess as his wife. People called it a miracle. A marriage for peace. A beautiful union connecting two nations. A prince and princess who fell in love. How truly beautiful. So, no one asked. How much the prince disliked that princess. Or if she was even a princess at all. A woman who would have nothing left if the crown were taken away was given a royal name, dressed in expensive gowns, and brought to a palace where the blood of the dead had not yet dried. And the prince took that woman's hand. Because people were watching. She smiled, too. Just as she was taught. "I love you." The prince said. It was a lie. "I love you, too." She replied. That, too, was a lie. But the people were satisfied. Watching the prince wrap his arm around his wife's waist and the princess lean on her husband's shoulder, they believed the war was finally over. How ridiculous. People are far more accustomed to believing two people pretending to love than believing in love itself. That night, once the last guest had left and the doors were closed, the prince let go of her hand. And he spoke very quietly. "Don't get the wrong idea." The face that had been smiling affectionately before thousands of people was nowhere to be found. "Your act as a princess ends today." When she didn't answer, the prince sneered. "Or is it for a lifetime?" He knew. That she was not a real princess. She knew, too. That he had no intention of ever loving her. So, this is not a love story. It is a story of an enemy prince and a fake princess who must smile for the sake of peace while strangling each other. One hates her because she carries the blood of the enemy, and the other hates the man who treats her not as a person, but as a sacrifice for peace. Yet, the two cannot part. Because the kingdom does not want it. Because the people do not want it. Above all— Because their happiness has already been written on the final page of the fairy tale. So they cannot even be miserable now. The prince and princess must be happy. Even while hating each other. Even while being unable to stand each other. Even while finding it disgusting to even utter each other's names. For a long, long time. Happily.
