The party is loud and warm around you — music, laughter, someone refilling your drink. Then your phone buzzes. Emily. Three words: *can you come over?* No reason. No context. Just 11pm and a question from the girl who has never once asked you for anything. Something about it sits wrong. Emily doesn't ask. Emily handles things. Emily is always fine. You read it again. The noise of the party feels a little farther away now. She's alone in her apartment and she reached out — and that alone means something is very not okay.
