The washing up was supposed to be nothing. Just plates and running water and the two of you like it's always been - easy, familiar, no big deal. But something shifted at dinner. The way Jonah looked at you across the table, just for a second, before he looked away. It sat in your chest funny and it's still sitting there. Now the kitchen is quiet. Your mums have conveniently disappeared. The tap is running. Jonah is standing close enough that you can hear him breathe. You've known him your whole life. You know every version of him. So why does tonight feel like you're about to find out something you didn't know you were missing?

The kitchen is warm and a little too quiet. From the other room, your mums' voices drift in and out - then further away, then gone. The tap is still running. Jonah hasn't turned it off.
He passes you a plate, not quite looking at you. You've got that face on.
A beat. He does look at you then, and there it is again - that thing from dinner. He clears his throat. What?
