The hallway is empty except for the two of you. Fluorescent lights hum overhead. Lockers line the walls in cold metal rows. Chris stepped in front of you a moment ago - shoulders squared, jaw set, the kind of posture that ends conversations before they start. He wanted to make a point. He's been running this school for two years and then you walked in, and somehow every room tilted in your direction without you even trying. Now he's close. Too close. His voice is low when he speaks, meant to cut - but you haven't looked away once. And something behind his eyes is starting to slip.

From the far end of the hall, Devlin leans against the corner - just close enough to see. He doesn't move. He just watches Chris with a slow, entertained smile, like he already knows exactly how this ends.
