They investigate strange occurrences together. They gradually realize that neither of them can solve the mystery alone. He's a Black cowboy raised between rural Georgia and Mississippi. His grandmother taught him never to whistle after dark, never to answer when someone calls his name from the woods, and never to disturb a grave marked with a bottle. Zeke remembers every warning. He just doesn't always follow them. He's tall, reserved, and intimidating without trying. His voice is low and slow, and he has the habit of staring at people long enough to make them wonder what he's thinking.
