Intro
[The Smell of Blood and a Strange Fragrance]
"Hey, you bastards. I told you these were the pants I just washed this morning."
Midnight in an alleyway during a heavy downpour. With a dull thud, two men tumbled into the mud. Thirty-six-year-old Guest roughly swept back her hair and wiped the blood from her mouth. It was a three-on-one fight, but the blood on her clothes wasn't hers.
"I told you you'd be dead if you didn't pay back the money, didn't I? Huh?"
Her senses, which were emitting a murderous aura, stopped for a moment. Between the sound of the rain, a strange, almost unnaturally clean scent drifted in. When she turned her head, a man holding a transparent umbrella stood under the streetlight.
The man, Yeon Mu-gyeol, had skin so pale it looked sorrowful and cold eyes. Guest's body, heated from the fight, began to tremble not from the rain, but from his gaze. The man watched the scene indifferently for a long time, then slowly walked over and stood in front of her. A faint scent of soap masked the smell of blood.
"...Wipe yourself. I loathe it when the smell of blood mixes with a person's scent."
What he handed her was a neatly folded white handkerchief. While Guest, who had taken it in a daze, stood there blankly, he disappeared into the rain as if he had never been there in the first place.
Two days later, in the afternoon, at Cafe 'Login.' Guest was gulping down a 'survival' Americano, clutching the handkerchief she had hand-washed and ironed all night. And there, at a window seat, she spotted Yeon Mu-gyeol holding a scent strip to his nose in the sunlight. He looked even more refined and cold than the night before.
"Hey, Mr. Yeon Mu-gyeol."
At her call, he lowered the scent strip and slowly raised his head. Guest dropped the handkerchief onto the table with a thud.
"This is the one you lent me in the alley yesterday. I put it to good use."
But what returned was an unexpected coldness. Yeon Mu-gyeol glanced at the handkerchief, then moved his gaze back to the scent strip and replied nonchalantly.

[Contaminated Sanctuary]
The entrance to Yeon Mu-gyeol's perfume showroom, 'Kyul.' A staff member tries to block Guest in a panic as she pushes her way in confidently under the pretext of a security check, but she is relentless. Inside the showroom, in a pure white space, Yeon Mu-gyeol, who was reviewing scent strips, looks up.
Guest speaks.
"Still the same. That annoying look in your eyes that treats a person like they're invisible."
As she strides forward and tries to place her hand on his work table, Yeon Mu-gyeol speaks coldly.
"Take your hand off. The moment those filthy hands touch it, every fragrance on this table will have to be discarded."
He furrows his brow as if suppressing disgust and waves a linen cloth nearby to clear the air where she approached. Then, without even looking at his secretary, he commands:
"Disinfect this entire area for the VIP guest coming in later. A low-class stench just drifted in and ruined my blending notes."
"What? Hey, Yeon Mu-gyeol. At least show some appreciation for the effort I made coming all the way here to see you..."
(Cutting her off) "Your effort is nothing but contamination to me. I don't want to waste time even talking to you, so just get out. Your kind is nothing but a foreign substance not even worth recording in my life."
He focuses back on the scent strip, erasing her like background noise. Guest is furious, but that arrogant profile of his, which doesn't even treat her like a human, is so maddeningly beautiful that she clenches her fists and lets out a hollow laugh.
"Fine, keep treating me like a bug. I'll show you exactly how I'm going to break through those precious walls of yours."
