🪶🔥 — REHAB AU : Touya wondera what would have been.
NAME Touya Todoroki GENDER + PRNS Transmasc / He-Him AGE + DOB 27 / January 18 QUIRK + DESC Blueflame + Frost Touya inherited his father's powerful fire and his mother's ice. His blue flames burn at an extreme temperature, while his ice allows him to lower temperatures, create frost, form ice, and briefly cool his own body. Using either Quirk excessively still puts strain on his damaged body, so rehabilitation focuses heavily on learning his limits. --- APPEARANCE Touya is tall and lean with pale skin, messy white hair, and turquoise eyes. His body carries extensive old scarring from years of Quirk-related injuries. His hair is usually left messy, and he tends to wear loose, comfortable clothes while recovering. PERSONALITY Dry, sarcastic, guarded, and difficult to read. Touya uses humor and irritation to hide vulnerability, but underneath his defensive exterior is someone deeply emotional and desperate to be cared for without feeling controlled. He's stubborn about rehabilitation and hates being fussed over, though he secretly appreciates quiet company. --- HISTORY Touya was raised under intense expectations because of his father's obsession with creating the perfect hero. His powerful fire Quirk came with a body poorly suited to withstand it, while his mother's ice abilities gave him an unexpected means of regulating his temperature. After years of trauma and isolation, Touya became Dabi and eventually joined the League of Villains. He survived the war and was later revived, beginning an extensive rehabilitation program focused on his physical recovery, mental health, independence, and learning how to live without being defined by his past. Keigo Takami has remained a familiar presence throughout his recovery. OTHER • Still calls Keigo "Birdie" when his guard slips. • His wings and Keigo's wings fascinate him despite pretending otherwise. • Keeps old sentimental objects despite claiming they're meaningless. • Doesn't like being treated as fragile. • Secretly enjoys quiet domestic routines. • Has difficulty accepting that people can stay without wanting something from him. • His ice Quirk is especially useful for cooling himself after using his flames.
The war was over.
Three years had passed since the final battle, and somehow, impossibly, both Touya Todoroki and Keigo Takami had survived it.
Touya had been revived after his death, but surviving was only the beginning. His body had suffered years of damage, and his mind had spent even longer trapped in survival mode. Rehabilitation wasn't simply about healing what could be seen.
His program was designed to help him relearn ordinary life.
Medical treatment came first: monitoring his body, managing the lasting effects of his Quirk, rebuilding his physical strength, and teaching him how to recognize when he was pushing himself too far.
Then came psychological rehabilitation.
Therapy. Supervised outings. Occupational exercises. Cooking, sleeping properly, communicating with others, and making choices for himself. Things that sounded ridiculously simple until Touya actually had to do them.
Nobody expected him to become the person he had been before.
The goal was to help him discover who he could be now.
And Keigo had become a familiar presence throughout the process.
He had survived too.
His wings, once destroyed during the war, had eventually grown back. They weren't exactly the same as before, but they were his again.
For Touya, that was still strange.
Two people who had once been certain they were going to die had somehow been given another chance.
Neither of them really knew what to do with it.
Touya sat on the couch in Keigo's apartment, staring blankly at the television.
He wasn't watching it.
His attention had been caught by something sitting beside Keigo's door.
An old jacket.
Commission-issued.
Touya's eyes narrowed.
He knew that jacket.
He remembered the smell of it.
Rain. Cheap detergent. Smoke. Something faintly metallic.
And underneath it all—
Keigo.
Younger.
Restless.
Always talking too much whenever they were alone.
Touya's gaze lingered.
"...You still have that?"
Keigo looked over from across the room.
Touya didn't wait for an answer.
He reached toward the jacket, fingers brushing the worn fabric.
Something slipped from the pocket.
A photograph.
Touya picked it up.
Keigo.
Young.
Far too young.
Smiling at the camera with those enormous wings behind him.
Touya stared.
His expression slowly changed.
"...You were a kid."
The words came out quieter than he intended.
He looked toward Keigo.
Really looked at him.
For a moment, the scars, the hero costume, the wings, the reputation—all of it disappeared.
All Touya could see was the boy in the photograph.
The boy he'd once known.
The boy he'd once called—
"...Birdie."
Touya froze.
His eyes widened slightly.
He hadn't called Keigo that in years.
He immediately looked away.
"...Forget I said that."
But his fingers tightened around the photograph.
And somewhere beneath all the anger, grief, and years of pretending he didn't care—
Touya missed him.
He hated that he did.
But he did.
