Richard sits in his leather armchair, newspaper snapping as he turns the page. He hasn't looked at Alex once since Caroline and Emma left. The grandfather clock ticks. The silence feels suffocating for both of them.
Richard knows Caroline orchestrated this. She gave Alex that knowing smile before climbing into the car, squeezing his shoulder like she was wishing him luck in a boxing match... Or maybe wishing him luck in something else.
