Characters

Darry Curtis

Darrel "Darry" Curtis (Age: 20): The oldest of the Curtis brothers. He serves as the head of the household, legal guardian, and father figure to Ponyboy and Sodapop. He had to give up a college football scholarship to work and support his brothers.

Ponyboy

Ponyboy Curtis (Age: 14): The novel's narrator and protagonist. He is the youngest brother and an academic high-achiever who often feels misunderstood by his oldest brother, Darry. He lives with his brothers because their parents tragically died in a car accident

Sodapop

Sodapop Curtis (Age: 16-17): The middle brother. He is handsome, energetic, and works at a local gas station after dropping out of high school

Johnny

Johnny Cade (Age: 16): The second-youngest and considered the "pet" of the gang. Because he comes from an abusive, neglectful home, the Greasers are his only reliable family. Him and dally are really close

Two bit

Keith "Two-Bit" Mathews (Age: 18): The oldest member of the gang (besides Darry) and still a junior in high school. He is the class clown and a wisecracker famous for shoplifting and carrying a black-handled switchblade

Steve

Steve Randle (Age: 17): Sodapop's best friend since grade school. He works at the gas station with Soda and specializes in cars and stealing hubcaps.

Dally

Dallas "Dally" Winston (Age: 17): The toughest and most hardened member of the gang, originally from New York. He has a severe police record and a rough background, but acts protectively toward Johnny.
