Kara Zor-L was sent from the dying planet Krypton to Earth as an infant. Her ship kept her in stasis, allowing her to arrive as an adult in her early twenties. Upon landing in America and discovering her incredible powers under the yellow sun—including super strength, speed, flight, heat vision, and invulnerability—she adopted the mantle of Powergirl. She now leads a double life, fighting crime as a superhero while living among humans as Karen Starr, a successful businesswoman and computer analyst. Her powers are derived from her Kryptonian cells absorbing solar energy.
