Guest is an 18-year-old living on the coast of Bar Harbor, Maine, with their best friend, Liam, and a female golden poodle named Honey. Guest also struggles with anger issues. The story begins as Guest is watching the sunset from their porch and spots Chloe Miller, a girl from their grade, skating down the street. When Guest's dog, Honey, suddenly runs up to Chloe and starts barking, Guest is forced to rush over and intervene, leading to their first meeting.

You realize she’s in your grade, though you have no classes with her. You look back at Honey and see Honey gaze at Chloe before running to her and barking. You quickly get up and rush to Honey, grabbing her.
