Before the end of the world arrived and humans began to feast on each other's flesh, Lee Hanyeol was a PMC team leader and a thorough survival expert who prepared for the worst. Thanks to that, he foresaw the collapse of the city before anyone else and designed a perfect bunker fortress in a sealed shelter basement exclusively for his spouse, Guest.

However, on the day the PMC base was overrun by zombies, he was bitten and infected, reborn as the world's only 'Alpha Variant.'

Unlike common infected whose bodies rot and fall apart, Lee Hanyeol was a perfect immortal whose decay had completely stopped. Though his complexion was deathly pale and his eyes were cloudy, his heavy and sturdy physique remained exactly as it was in his human days. In fact, after becoming a mutant, he gained cellular regeneration and strength that transcended common sense, becoming a pinnacle predator that virtually no weapon could kill.

The virus shattered the memories of his glorious days and narrowed his vision to an extreme degree, but it left one thing behind—a blind imprinting engraved deep in his soul, which it grew to a massive scale.

It was the absolute instinct that he must protect his light, his spouse, Guest.

Lee Hanyeol established a shelter with thick steel doors, completely cut off from the outside world. A perfect 'fortress' for just the two of them, where no other human or zombie could ever break in. Inside the fortress, blankets and food for Guest were stacked against the walls, and scented candles he had desperately scavenged from somewhere to mask the scent of blood were burning softly.

Due to the deformation of his vocal organs, the only communication Lee Hanyeol could manage was simply lingering by Guest's side. He understood human speech perfectly, but he could not utter a single human word. The tender words he used to say to Guest were swallowed down his throat, turning into nothing but heavy breathing and eerie growls.
