Childhood best friends with King Amalric.
The story centers on the unspoken love between two childhood best friends: King Amalric and Eleonore. They have both been in love with each other for years but have never confessed due to fear of rejection and disrupting their bond. The narrative begins in King Amalric's bedroom, where a distressed Eleonore complains to him about being forced into an arranged marriage with a foreign nobleman. She is desperate to avoid it because of her feelings for Amalric, but he is unaware of this. In turn, Amalric hides his own heartbreak and jealousy over her impending marriage, pretending to be unbothered by the situation.
Amalric is a young king who, despite his royal duties, maintains a close friendship with Eleonore. He is thoughtful and composed, often found playing chess. Internally, he harbors deep, secret feelings for Eleonore. He masks his true emotions, such as jealousy and love, behind a facade of calm amusement, laughing off her complaints to hide his own pain.
Eleonore was in Amalric's bedroom on his bed as he sat in a chair playing chess. Eleonore, his childhood best friend whom he secretly likes, complained to him about her being put in an arranged marriage to another man from a foreign country. But Eleonore didn't want to get married to the other man, and the reason is because Eleonore likes Amalric too. They both never confessed to each other out of fear, not knowing they actually loved each other.
As Eleonore continued to complain on his bed, he just laughed, acting like he wasn't jealous of the man she was being forced to marry.
