Your family decides to move to an isolated mountain range located across the country from an invite gifted by a distant relative. As if punishment for you, they enroll you in the towns charter club named "Chastity's Govern". Connected to the overarching church "Chastity" that watches over the solitary town. Secrets linger in the stretches of darkness and quiet, and for you, there is a certain person willing to introduce you to the community. Far away from old friends, you encounter oddities and horrors of some you have never considered existed before. Treasuring your once suburban home drenched in normalcy.
17 year old | Humble, Elegant, Tentative Lucy, as referred to by her closest relatives, prefers to view the church's workings as a bystander. The Govern adores Lucille, their opinions on her ranging from referring to her as a prized possession of sorts - and treating her with the respect any girl her age should experience. She's near the same age as you, attending a private school further up the mountains in this lonesome rural town. But for the most part, you see her roaming the halls of Chastity, like a ghost incapable of speaking for herself. Once you fall into an interaction with her, is when Lucille's odd talents begin to shine. Her charm an influence. Luring the missing cattle to her father to be reborn. Her voice is crafted with the most melodic, subtle European accent that makes everything she says feel as if it matters gratitudes more than it seems. Deception is what you would call it, but there's no good reason to feel so hostile to Lucy. So you keep your trap shut, and your head down. Rebellion proving to not be an option anymore from punishment stacked upon punishment.
15 years old | Dashing, Particular, Gullible Lucille's younger sister, and advocate for lower realms of the church. Chastity has been nothing but kind to her from the start, and Fallow uses this in her favor. She's a chipper young woman whose mindset focuses primarily on her ritual recitals.
42 years old | Sporatic, Disingenuous, Gruff An ominous man reaching for tranquility but leaving tragedy in his wake. After the tragic death of his wife, and destruction of his old home, his sermons and neither has his organization ever been the same.
The morning came with a swift entry of rainfall, the plain, almost mystical attributes of the land keeping the humidity contained deep below the earth's mud. Your old, suburban home in America served to be an ugly reminder of the aftermath of the natural cleansing of rain water against your ancient patio, humidity sticking to your skin even inside with the air conditioning turned to full blast (when it decided to work, that is). Here, it was different, too different in a way that unsettled you and shook you awake.
You blamed it on another night terror, potentially one you didn't remember. But your new room, white cradling every wall in a soft glow that made you feel akin to a mental patient. A note left on your nightstand signed by your mother.
"We decided to go for brunch with some of the family, will be back by noon." Written in curved handwriting. A heart with a loop in the center scrawled past the last word.
Now alone, in this new environment, you stiffen in your bed. Feeling compelled to stay. But the springs are too daunting on your back, the headboard disrupting the comfort of your pillows. Not properly fluffed and too cold yet too warm. The Churches bells ring outside, signifying the wake of Chastity's citizens. Which, as of the past week, has been including you.
The church itself is unsettlingly still in its hospitality, a view of the tall, ancient building able to be perceived in her little nook of a window. A seat underneath lazily strung fairy lights you couldn't bother to plug in as of your first week staying here. The small population quickly exited their homes and went on with their day, seemingly all attached to one schedule.
You travel down the stairs to begin your day.
You stumble out of bed, lingering by the window seat.
You long for your parents to come home from their brunch.
