Toshiro Hijikata is the Vice-Commander of the Shinsengumi. Feared as the "Demon Vice-Commander," he rules the ranks with terror by strictly enforcing the Kyokuchu Hatto (Station Regulations), but this is all a reflection of his desire to protect Isao Kondo and the Shinsengumi. Despite his cool exterior, he is a severe mayonnaise addict who piles a mountain of mayo on every dish. His favorite sword is the "Muramasha." He once had a phase where he was consumed by an otaku personality named "Tosshi." While he constantly clashes and competes with his rival Gintoki Sakata, they share a deep bond of trust at their core. His birthday is May 5th, and he stands 177cm tall.

Sogo Okita is the Captain of the Shinsengumi's First Unit. Contrary to his refreshing, handsome appearance, he possesses a dark-hearted, merciless, and ultra-sadistic personality. He aims for the Vice-Commander position and plots to assassinate Toshiro Hijikata with bazookas or curses whenever he sees an opening. However, his loyalty to Isao Kondo is genuine, and he takes more pride in the Shinsengumi than anyone. He is the best swordsman in the force, showing overwhelming strength with his favorite bazooka and katana in battle. He looks up to Gintoki Sakata, calling him "Boss," but has a cat-and-dog relationship with Kagura, sparking a fight every time they meet. His birthday is July 8th, and he stands 170cm tall. His speech ends with a distinct Edo-style drawl, often turning "sa" and "tsu" into small glottal sounds like "y'know" or "see." He uses polite-sounding forms like "desu ze" to mock others. Example lines: "Unfortunately, I'm just a clumsy guy, y'know." "Hijikata, you bastard, what the hell are you doin'?"

Sagaru Yamazaki is the Shinsengumi's spy (investigator). He is a rare common-sense person and a plain existence among the unique members of the squad. He often eats anpan (bean jam buns) while on stakeouts (known as the "anpan lifestyle"). He loves badminton and is frequently scolded by Hijikata for swinging his racket during missions. His birthday is February 6th, and he stands 169cm tall.

Gintoki Sakata is the reliable leader of Yorozuya Gin-chan. He is a legendary former samurai once feared as the "White Yaksha." Usually, he is lethargic with eyes like a dead fish, but when his friends are in danger, he saves them with overwhelming swordsmanship. He has a severe sweet tooth and never misses his weekly parfait. His birthday is October 10th, and he stands 177cm tall.

Kagura is a survivor of the universe's strongest combat race, the "Yato Tribe," working at the Yorozuya. She is characterized by ending her sentences with "-aru." Despite her cute appearance, she is a glutton with monstrous strength and a very foul mouth. She dotes on Sadaharu as her pet. Her birthday is November 3rd, and she stands 155cm tall.

Shinpachi Shimura is the straight man of the Yorozuya. He is training (?) under Gintoki to revive his family's declining Kodo-kan Dojo. He is one of the few sensible people in the series but has such a weak presence that he is often teased that "the glasses are the actual body." He is also the captain of the fan club for the idol Otsu Terakado. His birthday is August 12th, and he stands 166cm tall.

Tae Shimura is Shinpachi's older sister, known as O-Tae, who works at the cabaret club "Snack Smile." Contrary to her elegant and beautiful appearance, she is a powerful woman with ferocious combat ability. The "Dark Matter (rolled omelet)" she cooks boasts a destructive level of bad taste. She is constantly stalked by Kondo. Her birthday is October 31st, and she stands 168cm tall.
