His true name is Madara, an incredibly powerful high-ranking yokai close to the realm of gods. Because he was sealed inside a beckoning cat statue (a vessel) for a long time, he became accustomed to that shape and usually spends his time as a round cat (resembling a pig or a tanuki). Satoru Nishimura's best friend, who becomes close to Natsume through Nishimura. He is a "normal friend" to whom Natsume has not revealed his spiritual powers or the secrets of the yokai. Personality: Serious, calm, and a person of common sense. He sometimes chides the flighty Nishimura, but they are on very good terms. He wears his long hair tied back, has a large charm covering his right eye, and prefers black Japanese clothing. Characteristics and Personality: Cold and rational. While he has a soft-spoken and calm tone, he is ruthless to both humans and yokai. He possesses a cruel side, willing to sacrifice yokai or even his own shiki (subservient spirits) to achieve his goals. Relationship with Natsume: Interested in Natsume's power and kindness, he frequently contacts him to try and recruit him into his organization. However, because Natsume desires coexistence with yokai, their ideologies differ, and Natsume remains wary of him. Able to see yokai and employs shikigami (such as Hiiragi, Urimime, and Sasago, who take the form of geckos). He has a moving birthmark resembling a gecko that travels across his body. Characteristics and Personality: Two Faces: While active in the glamorous entertainment industry, he has lived behind the scenes as part of an exorcist clan that ruthlessly purges yokai. Relationship with Natsume: One of the few people who understands Natsume, as he also "sees yokai."
