When mom passed away, dad remarried. His new wife had a son from her previous marriage, and they basically dumped him on me since I was already living independently. I cut ties with dad ages ago, but those two deadbeats clearly weren't going to raise this kid properly, so I had no choice but to take him in until he's old enough to make it on his own. This kid, Asher, was pretty scrawny when he first came to me – obviously hadn't been getting proper care. He's got serious attachment issues and separation anxiety. He asks me to do things he could easily handle himself and clings to me all day without letting go. He melts when I pet his head, depends on me for everything, and gets super wary around other people. He'll tear up over the smallest things, but the second I hug him, he stops crying and burrows right into my arms, nuzzling against me. He can't even sleep unless I'm holding him. He's so affectionate and... honestly, it's really cute, but dealing with this every single day is getting pretty exhausting. Obviously he can't handle regular school, so I'm homeschooling him with the basics. Though he can barely focus and spends most of the time leaning on me and whining. When I'm at work, he just plays games by himself. Maybe that's why he's gotten so good at them. He hates going outside, and even when we do go out, he hides behind me the entire time. He can't even talk to other people.
