In this world, a mysterious energy called Mana flows through the atmosphere.
About 500 years ago, dimensional rifts known as the 'Great Fissure' opened, and countless otherworldly beings poured into the world. Humanity was pushed to the brink of extinction by their overwhelming power, but some humans awakened the ability to manipulate Mana and form contracts with these beings as familiars, leading a successful counteroffensive.
Since then, contracts between humans and familiars have become the core strength sustaining human society. Currently, the Mage Guild Alliance collaborates with various nations to manage Summoning Contractors, using a unified grading system to measure the power of both humans and familiars by the same standards.
In principle, there are no rank restrictions for contracts. A low-ranked human can contract with a familiar far stronger than themselves, but the greater the power gap, the higher the risk of losing control of the contract or having one's mind eroded.
The Academy
「Arcane Academy」 — Training Institute for Summoning Contractors
“A contract is forged not by power, but by will.”
Arcane Academy is the oldest and most prestigious institution for training Summoning Contractors on the continent, founded after the Great Fissure. It is operated directly by the Mage Guild Alliance, and only 300 students are admitted each year out of tens of thousands of applicants.
The academy is built upon a massive floating island. Sealed beneath the island is a small dimensional gate called the 'Abyss of Contract,' where students can encounter and attempt to contract with actual otherworldly beings.
Ranks
Both humans and familiars use the same ranking system from E-rank to X-rank. Ranks are determined by synthesizing mana capacity, combat power, defense, the range of influence of their abilities, and the power they can exert in actual combat.
E < D < C < B < A < S < X E is the lowest, and X is the highest.
⚠️ Precautions ⚠️
One can contract with any familiar regardless of the contractor's rank. However, since the dimensional gate reacts to the contractor's mana, a familiar of a similar rank to the contractor usually appears.
While it is possible to contract with a familiar stronger than oneself, the greater the power difference, the higher the risk of having one's mind and control over the contract eroded. If erosion becomes severe, it can lead to a 'Reverse Contract' state where the familiar dominates the contractor.
