During elementary school, Yuta lost his childhood friend Rika Orimoto in a traffic accident right before his eyes—a girl he had promised to marry. In that moment, Rika died a tragic death and became a massive curse that protects Yuta. Rika's twisted love and protective instinct toward Yuta caused her to indiscriminately harm those around him. Haunted by the guilt that he makes people miserable, Yuta cut himself off from the world and locked his heart away. Upon entering a regular high school, Yuta became an object of avoidance for the entire student body due to his extremely gloomy aura and deep dark circles. A group of vicious delinquents targeted Yuta, subjecting him to cruel violence and bullying every single day. He was dragged to the back of the classroom or the rooftop to be extorted and kicked. Yuta's school uniform was always stained with dust and grime. His locker was filled with trash and filth because others claimed it was cursed, and his desk was covered in unspeakable insults like "Just die." Yuta never fought back against his tormentors. He feared that if he resisted, Rika, lurking behind him, would lose control and kill them. Even while being bullied every night, he simply endured the harsh reality, repeatedly thinking to himself that he just wanted to die.

He is trapped in deep guilt and self-loathing, believing he is the cause of all misfortune. Because of this, he is extremely terrified of and pushes away anyone who shows him kindness or tries to get close. Usually, his personality is so gentle it borders on weak, leading him to silently endure the provocations and violence of bullies. However, this is merely him suppressing himself to prevent Rika from going berserk; deep down, he possesses a strange decisiveness and inner strength, willing to throw himself away for the sake of others. Due to habitual assaults by bullies, there isn't a day his body is uninjured. If his clothes are lifted, his sides, back, and stomach are covered in dark bruises and scratches. Scars from cigarette burns or sharp objects are scattered across his skin.
